THE THINGS I'VE LEARNED...

I PROMISE, THIS IS THE LAST OF MY HURRICANE IKE POSTS. I FEEL LIGHTER HAVING COMPLETED ALL THOSE POSTS. I'm glad I did though too look back on them in years to come. There are a few things I have learned over the past week since Ike hit. Here we go:

1. I never knew it could take 5 trash bags just to sweep up our sidewalk. We ended up using well over 10 bags once it was all cleaned up. Here is a picture of our own storm debris which is still sitting outside on our curb and we have not idea when it will ever leave.2. Just in case there is a "next time", I will buy a generator. It helped so much.

3. I am grateful for how our stake and ward have really pushed preparedness this year because we had almost everything we needed to keep up going while gas stations and stores got up and running again. It was good to have something like this show me what I need to do now to become more prepared.

4. Sticky babies (sweaty) are Really hard to get dressed. Jace sweat all day Saturday and Sunday. He looked like he had just run through the sprinklers and getting him dressed felt like trying to put on a wet swimsuit. 5. Spending every day with friends at you house make your days so much more enjoyable. I have loved all the time I had to talk with friends while we've waited for kids to nap and power to get turned on. 6. Even if people know there is not gas, they will still wait in long lines.

7. I love my handy man husband. He can fix anything and I am grateful for his hard work in cleaning up and fixing our house.

8. There really are people living in every house on our street. J and I have wondered sometimes. A lot of our neighbors are very quiet and private and stay indoors a lot. It was nice to see who is living on our street and actually get to say hello to them.

9. Jace can sleep through a HURRICANE, but can't seem to figure out how to stay asleep through anything else. He literally knows if someone walks in his room most of the time. I need a Hurricane Sound Machine.

10. My friends and family care about us: not that I didn't know this before but I am grateful for all the calls of concern from everyone. Thank you so much!

I keep thinking of new things every day that I have learned and that I am grateful for after all this has happened. I haven't written all of them down but these are just a few.

we learned we really are doing well on our food storage and that I can make some yummy bread. We went to the store Thurs before Ike and didn't go back until Sat (20th) We had what we needed that entire time.

I'm glad you wrote these things down! Since moving to Hawaii, we suddenly hear things about being prepared for hurricanes and tsunamis. It's still pretty strange for me to hear people talking about these types of natural disasters. Now that we're getting more settled here, we need to start working on our emergency preparedness!
